After pancake day …something to read and reflect on

Today is Pancake day. That’s a big event in our household and yes, that’s purely from a “let’s eat pancakes” perspective. However, of course, this marks the day before Lent. Whilst I’m not from a church culture where we follow the Church calendar.

However, a lot of Christians do find it helpful to follow these seasons of fast and feast. Having a focused period to mediate on the Cross can be a good and helpful thing.

A few years ago, I did a mini series of talks for our church introducing Isaiah in the build up to Easter. Alongside that I prepared more detailed, chapter by chapter studies, broken up into 40 chapters with the aim of them being useful for those wanting a devotional to follow through during Lent.

Why forty? Well Lent traditional is a forty day fast. Christians would be permitted to break the fast on Sundays through Lent and also on the special Saints days such as St Patrick’s Day. We definitely don’t observe those holy days as each and every one of us is a saint and every day is holy. So you might choose to spread the devotions over the time period as you wish.

And if you are interested in my take on fasting, you can find it here.

I’m resharing the book today.
