Romans 5:15-17

The gift (charisma) is not like the wrong-doing or transgression. Although we will see that there is a comparison to be made, sin through one man’s action, life through one man’s action, the two men and acts are incomparable. We have another “how much more”, the gift is better than the transgression.  The one man, Adam sin brough death to many but the other man, Jesus has brought God’s gift of grace to many.  Grace is better than the judgement of death (v15).

The second difference between the two is that the first brought condemnation on all, we were declared in the wrong and under God’s judgement.  The second brought justification, through Christ we are declared right with God.

There is another “much more” in verse 17 that compares the reign of death brought in through Adam’s sin to all men with the reign of life through Jesus made available to all recipients of grace.  Note that death reigned over us (cf v12) whereas we reign in life (v17).
