In Romans 5, we see a few intentional patterns at worth through repeated phrases. First there is the idea of “much more.” If we were “redeemed by his blood”, then “much more” will we be saved…from wrath” (v9). If enemies were “reconciled by his death” then “much more will we be saved by his life”.
This “much more” theme is returned to in verse 15. Here, we see that there is likeness between Adam’s one act of disobedience and Christ’s one act of obedience. If the disobedience brought death into the world then much more will the obedience bring grace and life.
The other big theme is to do with reigning. It’s about what has dominion, authority or rule. So on one side of the occasion, in Adam, we see that death reigns over us (v12 &17) and that sin reigns in death (v21). However, in Christ, we reign in life and grace reigns )v17), through justification in life *v21). This reminds us that we are “more than conquerors”, we are no longer slaves, under dominion but we have dominion, we are restored to our intended position in creation. However, that also requires that ultimate authority and rule never rests with us. Rather, it’s all about grace and if all about grace, then it is Christ who ultimately reigns through that grace.
