If you have any connection with Bradford, then you will get the significance of today. 39 years ago today 56 football fans, 54 Bantams supporters and 2 from Lincoln didn’t make it home from watching a football game. Within a few minutes, a horrendous fire took hold of the main stand. Those who did escape did so in many cases with horrific burn injuries. One of the 56 was a boy in my class, Adrian Wright.
I want to do two things today. First to remember the 56 who lost their lives. As always our thoughts are with their families.
Secondly, I remember being convicted that weekend of how short and fragile life is. It’s so important that we don’t take our lives for granted. We can think that we and those we love are invincible and will go on forever. We are not. Make the most of every moment now.
This must mean of course that if you do not have assurance of eternal life not to delay, not to assume that there will always be another day. It means that for those of us who do know Jesus that we should live every moment for him as though it could be our last here.
