The questions we need to sit with following Charlie Kirk’s death

Following the murder of Charlie Kirk, I thought it might be helpful to try and gather together the questions that his death has prompted.  I’ve discussed some of these here. I’m not claiming to have answers to everything.  I think though it’s a good idea to work through them.

  1. What questions and thoughts has his death raised about suffering?
  2. In what ways has it focused the discussion about how faith, politics, ethics and daily life interconnect,?
  3. Has his death helped us understand better why some  deaths and tragedies resonate around the world (e.g George Floyd)?
  4. Why do we seem to focus more on some deaths than others?  Specifically, why does it feel as though Christian leaders in the UK were quicker to respond to Charlie Kirk’s death than George Floyd’s?
  5. Why are some more prone to believe conspiracy theories?
    • What have we learnt about how images and narratives are curated to present narratives? Why were people quickly polarised over a person many knew little about before the 10th September?
  6. What have we learnt about the generation gap especially between boomers and Gen X v Gen Z?
  7. What have we learnt about how to share our faith?
  8. What have we learnt about the human condition?
  9. How would we have interacted with Charlie Kirk if he was a member of our church?
  10. What have we learnt about God’s sovereignty?
