This week, Prince Andrew, or Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor as we now must know him, was stripped of all his royal titles. He is also being exiled from his palatial home at Windsor. This is due to the scandal he has brought on the Royal Family due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein and the specific, horrific allegations made against him which he continues to deny but won’t go away.
This gives us a vivid image of sin affects us before God. Sin brings shame and dishonour. The penalty of death means a loss of identity, we are no longer part of God’s royal family. Death means that we are exiles from God’s loving presence
However, Jesus, the true heir (not a mere spare), took out place, he renounced the privileges of heaven and became a servant. He died the exile’s death on the Cross, outside the city. He has now been raised and declared to be the Son with power and glory
The result is that we now become royalty. We are welcomed into God’s family. We become sons and daughters, heirs with Christ. Our shame and disgrace is removed.
