Do you ever want to ask me why I keep talking about Christian Nationalism? It’s a question I keep asking myself at times. Well, this post shared by Christopher Wickland provides a strong reminder about why we need to keep talking about this.

I respond in detail in this video which I’d encourage you to have a watch of.
Here are the headlines.
- Wickland adds nationalism to the markers of faithful Christianity. The pure and holy church is also the church that has “a passion for the nation.” This makes politics a dividing point.
- This is to put back up dividing walls of hostility where Christ has smashed them down. It is to make divisions that God does not.
- This means that instead of the Cross being the only offence/stumbling block, other things are.
- If we add Nationalism as a marker of purity then we end up with Gospel Plus. So often, the Church has added things on to the Gospel so we have Jesus plus circumcision and food laws, Jesus plus tradition, Jesus plus penance, Jesus plus works, Jesus plus spiritual experiences. We must watch out for Jesus plus Nationalism.
Indeed, Wickland does us a service here by setting out so explicitly the nature of what we are dealing with. These are the very kinds of issues that Paul spent so much time dealing with in his letters.
