The wondrous gift

This is a short message to wish you all a Happy Christmas.  What a wonderful way to celebrate the special day by being able to celebrate it on the Lord’s Day.  I hope that you are celebrating with great joy and that this includes giving and receiving some fantastic gifts.  All of the little presents we receive point to the greater gift we have received. As the carol puts it:

 How silently, how silently,
the wondrous gift is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts
the blessings of his heav’n.
No ear may hear his coming,
but in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive him, still
the dear Christ enters in.

O Little Town of Bethlehem

The joy of Christmas is that God has given us the wondrous gift of himself.  We celebrate that God has come to us in the person of Jesus.  That’s why this is good news for a world of sin.  Christ came into the world to die for us, to bear the penalty for sin, so that we might go free and forgiven.

I pray that this Christmas Day you will be reminded again of the wondrous gift and take time to give thanks. Pray too that through our Christmas services and events that there will be people today willing to receive him and to know the peace and joy which comes when “the dear Christ enters in.”
