This week we look at 1 Chronicles 11-12

Anointed (11:1-3)

Jerusalem (11: 4-10)

  • This is actually 7 years in to his reign 2 Samuel 5:5
  • Jebusites, one of the 7 stronger nations God gave into Israel’s hand
  • Failure to drive out Jebusites (Joshua 15:63; Judges 1:21)

Jerusalem is in Benjamin, whereas Hebron = a city of Judah.  Jerusalem is a crucial symbol of David uniting the kingdom and replacing Saul’s dynasty

  • Joab comes to prominence

Mighty Men (11:10-47)

The inner circle – the three and the thirty

  • The three (11:10-14)
  • Three chiefs of the forty  (11:15-19)

Joining David (12:1-22)

  • A Growing army as power shifts from Saul to David

  • The kingdom is handed over
