Questions to ask in conversations about Federal Vision ideas, people and institutions in order to get clarity

Whenever I’ve commented on issues relating to Federal Vision and the people/places linked to it such as New St Andrews College, Douglas Wilson, Peter Leithart and James Jordan, I’ve tended to get a familiar set of responses back from others along the lines of:

  1. We, or the particular people/organisation I’ve raised questions about are not really linked to Federal Vision etc.
  2. We don’t agree with everything that Federal Vision proponents believe/say/so.
  3. We think that it should be possible to recognise and take on the good things from Federal Vision proponents whilst discerning the unhelpful/bad.

So, I find it helpful to ask these kinds of questions back in conversation to enable clarity.  I would also suggest that these can be modified to help bring clarity to other contexts.,

  1. Are you to articulate specifically what you believe to be the positives of the  Federal Vision/Related people and institutions.  What is it from there that you would want to replicate or in some way imitate here?
  2. Are you aware of the particular reasons as to why there would be significant concern here regarding the Federal Vision ideas, people and institutions?
  3. In terms of those concerns, which ones would you agree with strongly and which ones would you disagree with strongly?
  4. This leads in to the question about what specifically you would reject and so not want to be reflected from Federal Vision ideas/people/institutions in your context.
