Would Charlie Kirk get summoned for “the talk” in your church?

Aaron Edwards argues here that whilst many Evangelical leaders that lauded Charlie Kirk after his death, they would have seen him as a problem in their own churches and he would have been called in for a talk with the pastor.

I write as a church elder who has both written in appreciation of Charlie Kirk as a brother in Christ and said that if he had been a member of our church, then yes there would have been things I would have been duty bound to speak to him about.

You can see my response to Aaron here:

I think that Aaron misunderstands how healthy discipleship works in the local church and the responsibility on elders.

However, I can think of ways in which the type of conversation he imagines might happen both in a local church and indeed in terms of the wider setting. It doesn’t happen because of the reasons that Aaron suggests though. Rather, too often we can be cautious, especially when Middle Class politeness kicks in which means we talk around rather than addressing the real issues.
