I’ve been sharing some background materials that I’ll be taking into account as I prepare a sermon on Ephesians 1:3-14. Part of my aim here is to invite you into my study to get a little bit of an insight into my preparation. It’s important to note that this isn’t preparation that has all happened in the last week. Rather, it’s materials I’ve worked on over a number of years, some stuff I’ve drawn on in my preparation goes back 16 years. It’s helpful to remember that when we prepare to preach, we are not relying on what we cram in one week.
Rather, every sermon preached is the fruit of years spent in God’s Word, years of studying others, much time getting to know people and their needs so that you can apply God’s Word to them and years of seeking to know God yourself.
