Welcome to our new Faithroots teaching and training series, an introduction to Jesus and the Gospels.
If you had the opportunity to train at Theological College, then you would have the opportunity to cover a number of key areas of study. These would be
- Biblical Studies
- Doctrine/Systematic Theology
- Church History
- Ethics
- Pastoral Care and Counselling
- Apologetics
- Biblical Languages
- Preaching (exegesis, hermeneutics, homiletics
One of my aims here on Faithroots is to make all of those kinds of things readily and widely accessible to those who for al sorts of reasons might not be able to access them elsewhere.
A Biblical Studies unit would usually include Old Testament and New Testament studies and these would be divided down further with New Testament including Jesus and the Gospels, Acts, Paul’s Epistles and the General Epistles.
In this series we will be focusing on Jesus and the Gospels. As with everything on Faithroots, the aim will be to be as practical as possible so this should not be a dry theoretical study.
There will be three elements to this.
- I think it is so important that we get to know what the text is saying. I’ve been recording some audios, simply telling Luke’s Gospel in my own words. they are pitched at someone with no knowledge of Jesus whatsoever. I will also give a link to the relevant passages with guidance study questions and I would encourage you to first of all make sure that you know accounts well.
- Written sections going into detail, providing commentary and background notes.
- A weekly podcast. The aim of these will be to continue to provide teaching which will hopefully be helpful for those who are looking to dig deeper including those looking for accessible training for urban ministry. However, I am aiming to pitch as much of this as possible in a way that it would be possible for someone starting from scratch with no knowledge of Jesus and the Bible to join in.
Keep an eye out for more to come.
