#Worthy

The theme for our church’s Christmas events this year is “Worthy?” We are planning two carol services, a traditional style service with classic carols and readings on the 15th December in the evening and a family, nativity service on the 22nd December. We’re also planning for something on Christmas Eve and possibly Christmas Day too. If you live in the North Birmingham area and looking for a church, then watch out for the publicity for details,

Why the theme “worthy?” Well, it came about because Chris, our lead pastor was thinking about Christmas in the light of the parable of the prodigal son and the question “What do you think you are worthy of?” The prodigal obviously sees himself as unworthy of the love lavished out on him by his father. We also identified a double implication because one question, picked up in the line of In the Bleak Midwinter”, “What can I give him, poor as I am?”

So, as part of our build up to Christmas, I’m planning some advent reflections here on the parable of the prodigal son, linking them into the nativity.
