This is a little bit of a news update on what I’ve got planned for Faithroots this year. Whilst one aspect of the site is a blog which enables me to offer commentary from a Christian perspective on current events and from a reformed, charismatic perspective on issues within The Church, that is in fact not the primary aim of Faithroots.
My main concern is to see people equipped for Gospel service, especially into hard to reach, particularly urban contexts. This means I also want to help people get training and teaching who for various reasons may not be able to access seminaries and their resources. So, over time I’ve been developing a training resource.
The central strand of this resource is a systematic theology with a difference. I start from the perspective that what we believe affects how we live. So, my aim is not to offer purely doctrine on its own but to offer lots and lots of practical application and to help you think about how to apply what we believe yourself. So far, I’ve covered the Doctrines of Revelation, God (including the Trinity) and Creation.
This year, I’m planning to update “How do we know?” which is the bit on Revelation, with some additional material, an appendix on what preaching is and isn’t. Some practical material on how to communicate God’s Word, whether in preaching or Bible studies and a chapter looking more at the application of this doctrine. There may also be some more practical stuff on the exercise of gifts in the church in the light of this doctrine.
I also am aiming to complete “Being Human”, the doctrine of humanity. This will include discussions on what is sin, a look at the incarnation and especially atonement followed by plenty of ethical application. If I get this completed then we’ll move on to a look at New Creation, The Church and eschatology.
I hope you’ll find these resources helpful as I develop them.
