Time to celebrate?  Another Sabbath factor

Something struck me from Graham Alexander’s comments after Bradford City got promoted.  He was asked if it would be down to business for the next season on the following Monday.  He said that no,  the players would enjoy the civic celebrations, have a short holiday together.and observe the fire memorial. Then it would be back to work.  His reasoning was that when he had previously taken a team to promotion, they had not really stopped to devour and enjoy the moment.

This struck a chord with some things I’ve picked up on thinking about Sabbath.   When God rested on Day 7 it wasn’t because he was tired and needed a break, it was because he has completed the task and it was now time to enjoy his work. It was time to delight and celebrate.

We don’t just need sleep, we need time to enjoy and celebrate. Sabbath together on the Lord’s Day should carry some of this.  Church isn’t just, or even first about coming to learn, it is about coming together to worship and glorify God by enjoying him.

I wonder too if we take this into the week.  Do we take time to celebrate and delight through the week.  Do we enjoy successes and victories together as our families? Do we take this into the workplace?  If you have responsibilities for a team, how do you help them pause in order to enjoy, celebrate and delight?
