Restore Britain on religious freedom

Rupert Lowe posted the following on Facebook.

I would like to make the following brief observations.

 1. The reasons are to do with cultural nationalism not safety. The issue is whether or not they are “British”.

2. That included in their list is “kosher” food. At least there is consistency here. Most people who talk about banning halal attempt to ignore this implication. Yet Jews have been part of English/British culture for nearly 1000 years (at least) and indeed much of what passes as Christian external ritual and custom is rooted in Jewish culture and custom

 3. This begs the question about how Lowe intends to determine what counts as British. Christian Nationalists should be alert to the reality by now that for true nationalists, the Christian bit is a vehicle for, a servant of the nationalism, not the other way round.

4. It is not a small step from there to determine that aspects of Christian living do not in fact fit with the British culture. Those of us who are  evangelicals/independents and baptists may be particularly aware that our beliefs and practices have often been identified as not really British throughout the past 500 years.

I have seen a number of Christians, particularly those sympathetic to Christian Nationalism expressing support for Lowe’s Restore Britian party. I would encourage them to look more closely and be careful what they wish for.
