Below is our latest Afternoon Tea conversation. The key points from the discussion were
- Our experience of lockdown may feel very similar to a grieving process
- The following 7 stages of grieving have been identified
- SHOCK & DENIAL- You will probably react to learning of the loss with numbed disbelief. …
- PAIN & GUILT- …
- ANGER & BARGAINING- …
- “DEPRESSION”, REFLECTION, LONELINESS- …
- THE UPWARD TURN- …
- RECONSTRUCTION & WORKING THROUGH- …
- ACCEPTANCE & HOPE-
- We should not see this as a linear process, rather we can cycle through and repeat stages in a different order. Also you may encounter more than one stage at the same time
- Some people experience different stages for longer or shorter periods of time, however we should watch out for those who seem stuck at a specific stage.
- It is helpful to know and understand the stage you are at.
- Acceptance and hope often requires reconstruction as rehabilitation often involves a changed way of living (for example, we do not simply replicate our usual services online)
