Earlier this week in our #TheDailyDose talks I looked at what Paul had to say to Timothy about slaves and masters (1 Timothy 6:1-2). You can listen back here.
As I explain in the talk, the Bible’s handling of ethical questions around keeping and trading slaves has wider implications. If the Bible permits slavery but Christians have found ways around what the Bible says on this, then can we do so on other issues too? What about women elders, same sex marriage and transgenderism?
It was because of this that whilst at Oak Hill, I decided to look further into the arguments used by those like Wilberforce, Newton, Clarkson and Wesley to get the slave trade abolished. You can read my findings in this short e-book
