As we move towards September and out of the summer holidays, we want to start looking forward and thinking about the implications of what comes next in terms of COVID. The other day I mentioned that the UK figures were being confused a little by what we are seeing in England and what we are… Continue reading COVID – update and thoughts as we look towards autumn and winter

Marriage at work (3) Submit to one another”
Our understanding of Paul’s instructions to husbands and wives will be influenced by how we understand the phrase hupotessomenoi allelloi Here we have two apparently strong concepts.
Marriage at Work (2) A conversation in context
It may seem obvious to suggest that we should start with context, but despite our best evangelical intentions, there are two temptations which can distract us from this. We might describe them as the temptation to play “Proof Text Trumps” and the temptation to treat all the Household Codes the same.
Marriage at work (1) Introduction
I. 1. Why This Question? This dissertation arises from personal circumstances. Sarah and I both grew up in what might be termed traditional households; dad worked while mum looked after the children and the home. I want to share some further thoughts on response to the Afghan crisis including what I think governments should be doing in response. I appreciate that I’m moving further into the territory of personal opinion on matters that Christians should not have their consciences bound. Some of you may wish to stay clear of the… Continue reading Afghanistan – time is running out but a response is possible
A quick Taliban victory will not be good news for peace
The recent re-capture of much of Afghanistan by the Taliban has come as shocking and disturbing news to us all. However, equally disturbing have been some of the reactions to it. Take for example this tweet from Roshan M Salih, editor of British Muslim news site 5 Pillars.
Be careful with your offence
When Steve Chalke infamously used his punchline comparing Penal Substitution to “cosmic child abuse” a lot of people picked up on how offensive this was towards God. I think Chalke’s defence would be that it could not be offensive to God because the God he believed in had not punished his son on our behalf… Continue reading Be careful with your offence
